This series explores the "spicy Latina" trope through bold imagery and layered irony, reclaiming a stereotype that has long been used to objectify Latina women.
By incorporating Hot Cheetos: a ubiquitous, hyper-consumerist symbol of "spiciness" often associated with Latina identity, the work transforms an oversimplified cliché into a statement of pride.
The works juxtapose vulnerability with strength, sensuality with irony, and the stereotype with its subversion. It invites the viewer to consider the weight of stereotypical labels.
By confronting and embracing this trope, the work transforms what was once reductive into something Latina women alone have the agency to define.
