This series explores the "spicy Latina" trope through bold imagery and layered irony, reclaiming a stereotype that has long been used to objectify and diminish Latina women. By incorporating Hot Cheetos—a ubiquitous, hyper-consumerist symbol of "spiciness" often associated with Latina identity—the work transforms an oversimplified cliché into a statement of power and beauty.
These images juxtapose vulnerability with strength, sensuality with irony, and the stereotype with its subversion. It invites the viewer to consider the weight of stereotypical labels by owning and reshaping them. By confronting and embracing this trope, the work transforms what was once reductive into something Latina women alone have the agency to define—a declaration of empowerment, pride, and unapologetic beauty.
